On our journey to be more healthy, we try to keep some of our favorite foods but make them a little better for us :) When we would have spaghetti we would use cream cheese in the sauce with lots of mozzarella cheese (not so healthy for you, although very tasty!). We now use veggies and a low cal sauce and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese instead. Here's how our family makes spaghetti (that we all love and will eat!)
1 onion, diced
about 5 oz sliced mushrooms, chopped (I chop ours fairly fine)
1/2 pound ground turkey, browned
1 (24 oz) jar spaghetti sauce (we love Prego, light smart version and also the Classico traditional, both are yummy and low calorie with no added high fructose corn syrups)
1 box (13 oz) whole wheat pasta
parmesan cheese
Cook noodles according to package directions. While noodles are cooking, begin making sauce. In a frying pan, spray with cooking spray, then add in veggies and sauté until the onions are soft. Then add in your {cooked} ground turkey and spaghetti sauce and warm up.
Top noodles with sauce and a little parmesan cheese. Super easy, super healthy, super delicious!
I've been wanting to finely chop some spinach and toss that in with the sauce as well. I read online of an idea to cook them all together then puree it all with an immersion blender. Hidden veggies!! Such a great idea!!!
